The Mackenzie Delta in northern Canada is – and has been for a century or more – a place of rapid transformations. These include the boom-and-bust economies of fur trade and hydrocarbon industry; the cultural politics of residential schools and land claim agreements; and the hydrological implications of a changing climate change and melting permafrost. This presentation deals with the volatile world of the Delta, with the adaptation and strategies of the Gwich’in and Inuvialuit as its long-time residents.
Prof. Krause is a specialist for human-nature relations and resource governance with a special focus on rivers.
