The European Confederation of the Upper-Rhine Universities, founded in 1989, is a German-French-Swiss Meta-Network.

 Counting 103 000 students as well as more than 11 000 lecturers and researchers, the Eucor-Universities represent the research and lecture potential of the tri-national metropolitan region of the Upper-Rhine.

Global Studie Programme

The Global Studies Programme is a two-year social science Master’s Programme. The Programme is conducted jointly by the University of Freiburg, the University of Cape Town, FLACSO Argentina (Buenos Aires), Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok) and the Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi).

Its curriculum comprises of sociology, political sciences, anthropology and geography.

The Institute of Anthropology is actively participating in the Global Studies Programme, which was assigned as one of the top ten master's degrees at German Universities, named "Qualitätslabel für die zehn besten Internationalen Master-Studiengänge an deutschen Hochschulen".

 The Global Studies Programme is a two-year Master programme initiated in 2002 followed by an optional PhD initiated in 2008. The mission of the programme is to study social sciences in various cultures and regions focusing on the global South. It is conducted jointly by the University of Freiburg, the University of Cape Town, FLACSO-Argentina (Buenos Aires), Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok) and the Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi). Each institution belongs to the best in its region.

Students learn to approach the world and globalization from various regional perspectives and disciplines, comprising sociology, political sciences, anthropology, geography as well as some environmental sciences and economics. The multicultural experience of the programme is enhanced by the composition of the group of students studying and researching on four different continents. Each group comprises students from all parts of the world.

More than 200 students from 60 countries have joined the programme. One third of the graduates have moved on to do a PhD, around one third work in international organizations and NGOs, while the remaining third have entered various fields, such as politics, journalism, or business. The programme received many high-ranking awards, e.g. the BMW Group Award for Intercultural Learning (2004) and the title of a Top Ten International Master Programme in Germany by the DAAD and the Stifterverband der deutschen Wissenschaft (2006).

Master's degree of Interdisciplinary Anthropologie

Since 2012 the University of Freiburg offers a new Master' s degree in Interdisciplinary anthropology .Anthropology refers to the science of human ways of life within their biological and cultural diversity as influenced by, and embedded in, historical change. This area of study inquires as to the biological and cognitive dimensions of human beings and the evolution of social practices, artefacts and institutions. Furthermore, anthropology questions historical and contemporary worldviews and peoples. The degree is based on an interdisciplinary conception of academic research and demands the cooperation of differing scientific disciplines. The participating subjects are history, socio-cultural anthropology, sociology, philosophy, biological anthropology and cognitive science.

Southeast Asian Studies at Freiburg: Grounding Area Studies in Social Practice.

The University of Freiburg pursues an interdisciplinary concept of research on Southeast Asia. The disciplines involved include Political Science, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Economics and Asian History. Southeast Asian Studies at Freiburg build on interdisciplinary and internationalized research and teaching. All other program components such as methodology training, regional networking, the graduate program, the alumni program and knowledge transfer are closely linked with the research core

The ZAG was founded in 2000 as a scientific institution of the University of Freiburg.

Its organization comprises of lectures as well as degrees in historical and biological anthropology including gender studies.

The institute is participating in the interdisciplinary Graduate School "Friends, Patrons, Clients: Practice and semantics of friendship and patronage in historical, anthropological and cross-cultural perspectives" .

Memorandum of Understanding

• A MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed in 2010 between the GIZ (Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit) Jakarta and the University of Freiburg for the following subjects: Economic Sciences (Prof. Schulze), Political Science (Prof. Rüland), Ethnology (Prof. Schlehe). Framed by this agreement there will be one internship position offered each year for students of ethnology. The internship will take place in one of the current projects of the GTZ.
• On the initiative of the institute there was signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, in august 2010.
•  The (MoU) with the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, was prolonged in 2011.
